LEARNING GOALS:

Navigation in an Illustrator Document (03-01)
  • Explain the difference between a document and an art-board in Illustrator
  • Demonstrate how to make an art-board "active".
  • Use keyboard shortcut to fit the entire selected art-board on the screen
  • Use keyboard shortcut to fit the entire document on the screen
  • Demonstrate how to select an art-board using the art-board panel.
  • Demonstrate a keyboard shortcut to move around in an art-board.

Rulers & Guides (03-02)
  • Explain what is the origin point on an art-board?
  • Demonstrate how to create guide lines horizontally and vertically.
  • Demonstrate how to use the rectangle tool and "make guides" to create a locked guide sized 3.5" x 2" for a business card.
  • Create a business card for yourself, as owner of a factious (or real) design, photography or production firm. You should include a logo created using Illustrator shape tools.

Grids (03-03)
  • Show how to set up a grid that is 1" with 12 subdivisions.
  • Create a scaled drawing (birds-eye view) of the layout of your bedroom, or another room, using the grid. Include the walls, doors, windows, and furniture. You need to know the dimensions of the room, locations of doors & windows, and furniture.

Hide Selection / Edges (03-06)
  • Demonstrate how to turn on/off hide edges, and explain why you would want to hide edges of a selected object.

Lock Objects (03-09)
  • Demonstrate how to use the object menu command to lock and unlock some objects to prevent accidental changes.
  • Demonstrate how to use the object menu command to hide and unhide selected artwork.
